The construction of a sand school for many will be the most expensive single investment into their equestrian pastime, it is therefore essential that quality materials and workmanship are combined to achieve a durable effective riding surface. Experience has developed a construction method which has proved to be successful and it is from this that we are able to construct sand schools for everyday use.
In this example the site was sloping approx 5mtrs in 20mtrs and therefore required substantial earth moving, however the same principle is adopted in each case. We carry out a site survey and put together the relevant planning application complete with site plans and drawings.
The site is prepared at first by removing the top soil; this is separated so that it can be used later for landscaping the area.
Sub-soil is then removed from the higher side of the site and replaced on the lower side, this is done in layers which are compacted each time so that the ground is stable and firm.
The site is dug level with the use of laser levels attached to the excavator and the excess subsoil and top soil is landscaped so as to blend with the original ground levels.
Tanalised post and rail fencing is then installed with a retaining board at the bottom to contain the aggregate
Drainage channels are dug into the finished level with the correct falls, over which a membrane is laid which follows into each channel. Perforated drainage pipe is laid in the channels before being covered with clean stone over which a layer of binding material and finally the layer of sand. An optional layer of chopped rubber can also be laid to give the top surface added spring and consistency.
Finally any additional fencing and hedgerow planting is undertaken to complete the installation.
